On March 14th and 15th, the Reincarnate team gathered in Valencia, Spain, the European Green Capital 2024, for its 4th General Assembly meeting organized by partner AUSTRALO (AUS) in collaboration with Mostostal Warswawa (MOS). The primary objective was to review the project’s progress, technical deliverables, and innovations as it nears the two-year mark.

Moderated by project coordinator Timo Hartmann, the meeting emphasized the significance of the gathering following the recent review meeting with the European Commission, which yielded positive feedback, affirming the project’s trajectory. With the upcoming release of the first public deliverables, the collective effort of the 16 project partners becomes even more crucial. As the reviewers mentioned, the project needs each member’s experiences and knowledge to accomplish the mission of reincarnating the built environment.

On the first day, Reincarnate partners presented various technical innovations and demonstrators. Topics ranged from MOS’s carbon footprint digital tool to the Technical University of Delft (TUD) strategies for renovating buildings and extending their functional lifetimes, incorporating waste reduction potential. Discussions also covered AI-driven material upgrades by Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und – prüfung (BAM), component and product reuse frameworks by Plan B and parametric BIM tools for recycled materials by the Technical University of Berlin (TUB).

Moreover, TUB provided updates on Reincarnate demonstrators, and the technical coordinator – Demo consultants (DMO) – continued with insights into the CPIM Reincarnate platform’s latest developments. Additionally, discussions delved into real-time carbon footprint parametrization by CEMEX, the BIM for circular value flow planning tool slated for demonstration in real-world scenarios, and the value chain integration within the CPIM Reincarnate platform.

The technical day concluded with dynamic activities, including the Innovation Pitch contest, won by Benjamí Moreno, showcasing an inspiring pitch that will be featured in an upcoming campaign. The Ragnsells team conducted a workshop on BIM for circular value flow planning and three Reincarnate demonstrators.

The second day focused on the project’s social aspects, starting with a technical board meeting to assess the previous day’s discussions. Presentations on dissemination, standardization, and exploitation status were followed by a dynamic reflection session led by partner Erasmus University of Rotterdam (EUR), exploring awareness activities and strategies for adopting circular practices in the construction industry.

Overall, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity for in-person collaboration, debriefing on the recent review meeting, and strategizing for future innovations and demonstrations. Preparations are underway for the next meeting with Advisory Board members to gather feedback and recommendations for the project’s advancement.
