Each year, Sustainable Places features topics that are shaping how we think about cities and the built environment. Across all editions, Sustainable Places is open to all topics related to building sustainability and most often reflect priorities described in the European Commission Societal Challenges and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In its 11 edition, Sustainable Places has covered the following list of themes:

  • Energy Communities, Smart Cities and Urban Transition
  • Renewable Energy Technologies
  • Sustainable Construction & Renovation
  • Decarbonization & Circularity, Climate Change mitigation and adaptation.
  • Facilitating the energy transition: Policy, Finance, Training
  • Sustainable Urban Renewal & Cultural Transformation
  • Digitalization, Smartness & Artificial Intelligence
  • Resilience and Energy Security

Sustainable Places prides itself on being an ideal platform for the dissemination of research, the conduct of workshops, EU project clustering and networking between stakeholders of all types. As an EU-funded project ourselves, for Reincarnate it has been a perfect opportunity to gain visibility after one year of implementation and to start making our space in the ecosystem.

During 14 and 15 of June 2023, our partners DEMO Consultants (Netherlands), Mostostal Warszawa (Poland) and 3L Arquitects (Germany) have attended in person technical sessions and project-organized workshops around technology transfer, renewable energy implementations and energy security with the aim of facilitating actions that increase the rate of renovation and renewable energy implementations.

In particular, our colleague Klaus Luig from 3L Arquitects participated in the workshop “Circular and Bio-Based Building Solutions”, bringing together interesting projects such as BIO4EEB, BIOMAT, MEZeroE and Interreg CE4CE to discuss increasing the energy efficiency of buildings to achieve climate neutral conditions by adopting circular and bio-based solutions. In the panel. experts presented innovative building envelopes and renovation materials that boost energy savings, save resources, and decrease carbon emissions both during building construction and operation. A true inspiration for Reincarnate.

Among the multiple stakeholders that we have met, we would like to highlight the connection with our sister project Reconmatic. In the picture below you can see our colleagues Samaneh Rezvani and Piotr Dimarsky with Elena Goikolea Güemez, Arquitect at ICATALIST S.L.

It was a very enriching experience for us and we hope to meet in the next editions, where we will be able to bring more tangible results from our research!
