On June 19th, Aterhus 3.0 hosted a workshop to gather different projects working on circularity in Sweden. The event featured diverse presentations on logistics and circular economy models, with a focus on the challenges of large-scale reuse of frames. The Reincarnate project, represented by Niklas Arnby from partner Ragn-sells (RS), emphasized the vital role of access to information and data in the shift to a circular economy and the potential for research projects to collaborate and increase their influence.

The `Återhus to build houses from houses’ project aims to enable the reuse of heavy building components in a cross-industry transition towards a circular economy. Co-funded by Vinnova, it focuses on structural elements and facades made of concrete and steel for reuse in new construction and renovations. Concrete is one of the elements that Reincarnate is working on as it is one of the most resource- and energy-intensive materials during production and often has a long lifespan after demolition. Therefore, our participation was essential to presenting our project and learning from Återhu’s experience and the other participants presenting speeches on circular economy.

“At the heart of our work at Ragn-sells is the belief that access to information and data is a cornerstone of the transition to a circular economy. This belief is not only a key driver of our strategic involvement in R&D projects like Reincarnate, but also a crucial factor in meeting downstream customers’ demands for quality and traceability. The workshop provided a timely opportunity to connect with diverse research projects, fostering a collaborative environment where we could leverage our unique knowledge and expertise for greater collective results,” affirmed Niklas Arnby, Business Project Manager Recycling & ReUse at RS.

One of the most critical issues raised at the workshop was matching needs and supply with time, place and suitable materials. However, the participants shared that there are forces and the will to develop means and tools to meet this goal and invite the whole industry to make the most of them.
