On December 2, 2024, Mostostal Warszawa, a partner of the Reincarnate Consortium, held a lecture at the Faculty of Civil Engineering – the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. The presentation focused on practical applications of Building Information Modeling (BIM) by a general contractor, explaining how this technology is integrated into construction projects. The lecture also highlighted the role of buildingSMART International open standards in enhancing construction processes and introducing innovations.
The session provided an overview of Mostostal Warszawa’s ongoing research in BIM and its contribution to the Reincarnate project. Reincarnate is a European Union-funded initiative aimed at promoting circular practices in the construction industry, exploring how existing buildings and materials can be reused and repurposed to reduce waste and environmental impact. By fostering collaboration across the industry, the project seeks to integrate new tools, methods, and standards to achieve a more resource-efficient and sustainable construction sector.
During the lecture, students learned about the development of a BIM plug-in designed to optimize material ordering directly from BIM models. This tool incorporates carbon footprint data into project planning, providing practical insights for more sustainable decision-making. The presentation also covered broader strategies for moving toward a circular economy, emphasizing the need for innovative approaches in construction planning and management.
The lecture was attended by around 50 students and it was organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Civil Engineering. It offered attendees an opportunity to learn about the digital advancements taking place in construction and how these changes align with broader sustainability goals.
